DescriptionA woman holds a young boy up to look at a framed portrait, probably an oil painting, of a man. She wears a dress with a wide neckline trimmed with lace. Her hair is tied back with a double strand of pearls and two roses, and she wears a necklace of pearls around her neck. The child wears long pants and what is probably a vest over a long-sleeved shirt. The man in the portrait wears a jacket, vest, shirt, and necktie. An open jewelry box is on a small table covered with a tablecloth in the right foreground. Patterned wallpaper is on the wall. Drapery is at the right, and heavy curtains cover what is probably a window in the background.
