DescriptionSpun Britannia metal teapot with a flared, conical lid with a short, disc-shaped finial. The lid sits at the top of the body of the teapot; it attaches to the teapot with a hinge at one side. The body has a flared rim, a narrow neck, a squared shoulder, a conical body, a tapered ankle, and a flared foot. The bottom has a flat band around the edge with a recessed circle in the center. At one side of the body there is a cast, ear-shaped handle with a short scroll at the top and scrolled ends. Opposite the handle is an S-shaped spout soldered over several holes that are punched in the side of the teapot. Skimming marks are visible on the underside of the lid and on the interior of the teapot. There are a few small dents around the widest part of the body. The teapot is lightly tarnished.

Skimming Marks: Skimming marks are concentric rings left on cast pewter objects by skimming tools. Skimming is the process of removing metal and smoothing rough surfaces by scraping the pewter object as it rotates on a lathe.
