DescriptionBlown-three mold dark olive green glass inkwell with a circular opening in the center of the flat top, curved shoulders, cylindrical sides, and a shallow kick and a pontil mark on the bottom. The inkwell was formed by blowing glass into a three-part mold with a raised geometric pattern. The pattern is located on the sides of the inkwell, and consists of a band of diamond diapering over a horizontal, raised band, over a band of wider diamonds. The bottom edge of the inkwell has a ring of light scratches and wear. The bottom edge also has some areas with clear wax affixed.

Kick: An indentation in the bottom of a drinking glass, bottle, or other glass object.
Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
NotesHistorical Note: According to the donors, this was used by their grandfather, Dr. Oliver Kingsley Isham (1797-1872), of Tolland, Connecticut, when he served in the State Legislature, 20th District, in 1858.
