DescriptionPortrait of a woman seated in a chair, her head turned slightly to the left. She has brown eyes and dark hair arranged on top of her head and held into place with a large shell comb. Around her neck is a tulle ruche tied by a pink bow with a gold ornament. Her black dress is cut very straight and low across her shoulders. The front of her gown has chevron-like tucks, and the puffed sleeves are held tight at her wrists with a gold ornament on each cuff. She is also wearing a wide black belt held by a large gold buckle. Her jewelry includes a double necklace of jet and gold beads on narrow black cords, gold earrings, and a gold and jet ring. She holds a book in her right hand.
