DescriptionFamily register worked in blue-green, fuschia, cream, yellow, flesh, pink, dark green, light blue, light green, yellow-green, gray and copper silk threads on a plain-woven linen ground in cross stitch and other stitches. The register is rectangular, oriented vertically. It is laid out with sixteen lines of family details, over a horizontal band of pictorial motifs at the bottom. The pictorial motifs include, from left to right, flowers or berries on vine, a vase of flowers, and flowers or berries on vine. The register has a four-sided narrow, geometric, multi-colored border.

The register has a 1/8- to 3/16-inch double-turned hem on both sides and selvedges on the top and bottom. It has nail holes along all four edges. The register is not framed or mounted.

Letters and Numbers: In the first line of family details the date "Nov 13 1809" is worked as "Nov" with "13 1809" placed immediately above "Nov"; in the tenth line, the date "March 20 1784" is worked as "March 20 17" with "84" placed immediately above "17". In the last line the "J" in "July" is backwards. All lowercase letters with descenders, such as the letter 'g', are placed so the descender does not extend below the baseline. The embroiderer uses long 's'.

Stitches: The principal stitch on the register is cross stitch over two; it is also worked in satin, chain, cross over one and outline stitches.

Condition: The ground has two holes, toward the center top. The register has light fading. It has nail holes along all four edges. There are some holes. The register is not framed or mounted.
