DescriptionRectangular, oak bottle case with wrought iron nails and a hinged lid. The bottle case has mounts with nails at the four edges. Where the oak top board and pine bottom board are nailed at a joint, a short iron strap secures the board to the oak sides of the case; smaller nails fill in the gaps between the straps. An elaborate iron lock escutcheon decorates the front of the case, while strap hinges decorate the back. Each end of the case has one twisted wrought iron loop handle attached with two cotter pins. The lid, about a third of the height of the bottle case, lifts up to reveal seven rectangular sections arranged in a "U" shape around a central square section. The rectangular sections would have held larger rectangular case bottles (three survive). The central section has a wooden, dovetailed tray with partitions for three small, cylindrical bottles (one survives) and at least two small wine glasses (now missing). The tray lifts up to reveal six small rectangular sections. The interior of the bottle case is lined with one of two materials. The edges of the rectangular sections and the entire tray are lined with red canvas that was nailed into place. The interior top of the lid is lined with a square area of red canvas that corresponds to the location of the tray. The remainder of the interior is lined with laid paper that is hand-painted with red glaze in a pattern of diagonal undulating lines on a combed background.

The top left corner of the lid has a split in the wood, around the nail. The exterior of the lid has an unknown white substance dripping down the top to the back. The paper liner is worn and has stained and warped in many areas. The red canvas has stained and discolored in several locations.
