DescriptionBlown olive green glass bottle with an applied ring at the rim, a short, cylindrical neck, a flattened, pear-shaped body, and a pontil mark with a medium kick on the bottom. The bottle has a rectangular brown paper label with the printed words, "Ext. WITCH HAZEL./ EDWIN CRARY,/ APOTHECARY,/ 206 PARK, OPP. SQUIRE STREET,/ HARTFORD, CONN."
At some time in the past, the entire neck broke off, and cracks developed down the shoulder and side of the bottle. These have since been repaired using a translucent glue. The bottom of the bottle has a ring of light scratches and wear. The edges of the label have chipped off in many places.
Kick: An indentation in the bottom of a drinking glass, bottle, or other glass object.
Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
