DescriptionGroup of four souvenir tumblers (.a-.d) in their original cardboard box (.f-.h) with printed paper pamphlet (.e).

Tumblers (.a-.d): Each of the pressed colorless glass tumblers has a plain rim, a cylindrical body, and a thick, flat bottom. Each tumbler has a different Connecticut landmark printed in black on one side, with the emblem of the Hartford Chamber of Commerce on the opposite side. Tumbler .a shows a multi-story building with an irregular roof line and a cupola in the center. Beneath are the words, "CONNECTICUT STATE CAPITOL/ HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT". Tumbler .b shows a wood covered bridge over a body of water with a pointed roof and vertical wooden siding supported in the center by a trapezoidal stone structure. Beneath are the words, "COVERED BRIDGE/ WEST CORNWALL, CONNECTICUT". Tumbler .c shows a tree with a thick trunk and wide branches next to a small fence. Beneath are the words, "CHARTER OAK TREE". Tumbler .d shows a rambling stone structure with a crenellated roof line and many windows. Beneath are the words, "GILLETTE CASTLE/ HADLYME, CONNECTICUT". The emblem of the Hartford Chamber of Commerce consists of several buildings and rooflines within a square. To the right are the words, "MetroHartford/ Chamber of Commerce/ 200th Anniversary".

Box (.f): The original cardboard box for the tumblers has a top that flips open and reveals two cardboard dividers separating the tumblers. The top of the box is covered with a piece of white paper that has an extensive printed description of the contents within an elaborate scrolled border. The description reads, "Timeless Traditions/ Limited Edition/ Glass Collectibles/ Exclusive to The Connecticut Store/ of Howland-Hughes/ Set of Four/ 11 Oz. ROCKS GLASSES/ This set of collectible glassware has been crafted exclusively for distribution by/ The Connecticut Store. Through the combined efforts of local designers,/ illustrators, historians, glassware companies, silk-screening operations and of/ course, Hank Paine of The Connecticut Store, this project became the reality/ we take pride in sharing with you now. Thank you for supporting our 'Made/ in Connecticut' products. Be sure to visit our downtown Waterbury store." Below this is a black imprint in the shape of the state of Connecticut. Inside, are the white words, "MADE IN/ CONNECTICUT". Surrounding this is a black border with the white words, "THE CONNECTICUT STORE/ HOWLAND-HUGHES CO., WATERBURY, CT". The same piece of paper extends onto the back of the box. On this side are the words, "Set of Four/ 11 Oz. ROCKS GLASSES." Below are the names of four different series of tumblers: "Waterbury Series One/ Waterbury Series Two/ State of Connecticut/ Custom Series". Each series name follows a square check box. The box next to "State of Connecticut" has been checked with a yellow highlighter. To the right of the series names is a black imprint in the shape of the state of Connecticut. Inside, are the white words, "MADE IN/ CONNECTICUT". Surrounding this is a black border with the white words, "THE CONNECTICUT STORE/ HOWLAND-HUGHES CO., WATERBURY, CT".

Pamphlet (.e): Blue paper pamphlet printed in black ink. Titled, "Exclusive Connecticut SERIES", the pamphlet describes the history of each landmark that appears on the tumblers. The pamphlet has been folded multiple times. [A copy of the pamphlet is in the object file for 1999.129.0.]
