DescriptionBlown light green glass bottle with a ring at the rim, a cylindrical neck, sloping shoulders, a slender, tapered body, and a deep kick with a pontil mark on the bottom. There are many bubbles in the glass.
The bottle has two applied labels. On one side is a white rectangular label with a smaller, rectangular printed black border inside. Contained within the black border are the words, "BLACKBERRY WINE/ PREPARED BY/ SHAKERS, Thompsonville, Ct." A hand-written note in black ink below this reads, "drunk up/ Dec 1910 +/ Jany 1911". A small, white rectangular paper label is adhered to the lower corner of the large label. "50 cts" is printed in black ink on this smaller, superimposed label. On the reverse side of the bottle is a later, applied rectangular label with canted corners and a red border. "Gin." is hand-written in black ink on this label.
Kick: An indentation in the bottom of a drinking glass, bottle, or other glass object.
Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
