DescriptionWheel-thrown, buff-colored earthenware mug with a slightly flared rim, gradually widening sides, a canted lower side, and a flat bottom. The mug has an applied, slender, curved handle that extends from the rim to the lower side. An opaque dark green glaze is applied to the interior, handle, and much of the exterior of the mug. Neither the bottom nor an applied raised cartouche found to the right of the handle are glazed. The cartouche is decorated with the impressed words "SONO ARTS" above and "CELEBRATION" below the emblem of the New England Brewing Company. The impressed emblem consists of a three-masted sailing ship on the ocean. Superimposed over the ship is a banner that reads "NEW ENGLAND" with "BREWING CO." written in smaller letters to the lower right of the banner. All impressed words and designs are filled with brown enamel. There is one small chip and a series of nicks on the bottom edge of the mug.
NotesSubject Note: The SoNo Arts Celebration is a non-profit event which takes place every August in South Norwalk, Connecticut, to support original music, art, and community spirit.
