DescriptionPunch cup made of pressed green glass with gilding. The punch cup consists of a compressed, spherical bowl resting on a three-part lobed foot. An ear-shaped handle is applied to one side of the bowl. Opposite this is the etched inscription "Asbury Park/ 1907/ Alma A. Jaeger". The inscription is followed by a scroll embellishment. The bottom of the bowl is connected to a rayed glass border, then a band of raised circles and diagonal lines. These rest on a foot composed of three separate glass lobes. The raised decoration on each lobe consists of a raised circle with scrolled and rayed elements to each side and below. The foot has been gilded on some raised decorations and on all the flat decorations. The underside of the foot, corresponding to the bottom of the bowl, is pressed with a rayed motif. There is some wear and light scratches on the bottom of each lobe of the foot.
NotesProvenance Note: The engraved inscription on the cup gives the name "Alma A. Jaeger". However, family history says it was originally owned by Alma Marie Jaeger. The file was sent to Judith E. Johnson, CHS Geneaologist, to look for an Alma A. Jaeger in the family. Johnson located Alma M. Brockway, widow of Edward H. Brockway of West Hartford, Connecticut, in the 1956 Hartford Suburban Directory. She suggested that Alma Jaeger Brockway may have had more than one middle name, thus the discrepancy between her middle name, Marie, and the middle initial "A" on the punch cup. Subject Note: Asbury Park was the premiere seaside resort in northern New Jersey in the early twentieth century.
