DescriptionGroup of three shot glasses made from pressed, cut, and etched colorless glass. Each of the three shot glasses has a plain rim, thin tapered sides, and a flat bottom. A row of three-quarter-inch-tall cut flutes circles each of the shot glasses at the bottom of the side. An etched advertisement on the side of each shot glass reads, "'AS WE JOURNEY THROU' LIFE/ LET US LIVE BY THE WAY'/ CHAFEE HOTEL,/ MIDDLETOWN, CONN."
NotesHistorical Note: George A. Chafee ran a hotel in Middletown, Connecticut, from about 1865-1903. In 1889, he opened "The Chafee House" in the refurbished "old Dr. Baker residence" on Court Street. After George A. Chafee's death in 1903, the business was taken over by his son, Charles A. Chafee. He continued to operate the hotel until 1936. (Source: Lions & Eagles & Bulls, p. 236)
