DescriptionBlown colorless lead glass measuring cup and case. The measuring cup (.a) has cylindrical sides, and a polished pontil mark on the thick bottom. Measurement units are engraved on the side: "TABLE/ SPOON", "4/ 3/ 2/ 1", "TEA/ SPOON", and "8/ 6/ 4/ 2/ 1". Short horizontal lines indicate where the exact unit of measurement was.

The case is made of cylindrical cardboard with a flat top and bottom. The interior of the case is pink, and the exterior is lined with maroon faux leather. Originally, the case was made of two parts, one of which had a narrower green cylindrical piece to fit inside the opposite part. Now those two halves of the case are firmly wedged together (.b), although a portion of the green connecting piece is still visible. A circular disc of cardboard, that had been one end of the cylindrical case, is now separate from the body of the case (.c). This end is stamped with a gilded label, "MEDICINE GLASS", with a scrolled, abstract design above and below. At one end of the interior of the case are the printed words "ir and for the District of/ determined, we do hereby allow". The exterior of both parts of the case is lightly worn.

Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
