DescriptionAn eighteenth-century farmstead consists of a five-bay Colonial center chimney clapboard house with shutters and a porch, plus three outbuildings on the left, including a woodshed. There are chickens in the foreground. A woman wearing a dress and hat stands on the porch. A boy wearing a coat is in front of her, near a man wearing a coat and hat. Also on the porch are four wooden chairs and two toy rocking horses. An open container is in the right foreground. What appears to be a fish weathervane or lightning rod is on the roof of the center outbuilding.

The mount is blind stamped with a repeating border design and corner fleurons.
NotesSubject Note: According to the donor, the house was built in Plainfield, Connecticut in the early 1700s by James Dean. John R. Dean (1805-1872) ws the owner of the house at the time this photograph was probably taken.
