DescriptionBell made of blown and cut opal glass, with an ivory (?) finial and a brass handle and clapper, in the Empire or late neo-classical style. The finial on the handle is made of a carved white material (possibly ivory) that has been painted red. The finial is in the shape of a looped dolphin or eel, resting on a stylized flower. The finial connects to an ornate cast brass handle made of two parts. The top part of the handle looks like a circular wave or spray of water. The lower part of the handle looks like additional waves, in the shape of petals, that curve down around the top of the glass portion of the bell. The glass portion is bell-shaped, with a band of cut flutes circling the handle. At the lower edge of the glass there is an added band of blue glass. The brass clapper inside the bell connects to the bottom of the handle through an off-center hole in the glass. The red paint on the finial is slightly worn.
