DescriptionThree-quarter-length portrait of a young woman holding a closed book in both hands. She wears a dress with a wide neckline and balloon sleeves and undersleeves. The dress is trimmed with broad, gathered ribbons which are tied in large bows on each shoulder. Her jewelry includes a brooch pinned to her neckline, a necklace consisting of a pendant on a string, and a small pin on a thin chain across her forehead. She also wears a broad-brimmed hat with veil, and she appears to be wearing gloves.
