DescriptionThree men on horseback are on a hill at the right. All wear military uniforms. One man appears to be African American. A fourth man, wearing an overcoat and a cocked hat, is in the process of mounting his horse. A bare tree is directly behind this group. At the left, three soldiers and another man in an overcoat appear to be hauling a cannon on a gun carriage down the hill. Another mounted man is in front of them. Men and horses are embarking in a large open boat in the background. Three additional boats are already on the river beyond. High hills are on the other side of the river. It is winter, and snow is on the ground.
