NotesHistorical Note: Eleazer Lord was the son of Benjamin Lord (1666-1713) of Saybrook, Connecticut, and a major land owner and merchant of the "Lord's Bridge" section of Norwich (now Baltic). His wife, Abigail Cheeseborough Mumford, was the widow of Thomas Mumford of Groton when Lord married her in 1754. These portraits are remarkable for never having been restored. Like all the Johnston portraits on view, they retain their original Boston frames.Status
