DescriptionGirl's dress with a green bodice and red/green plaid skirt with large pearl buttons and machine-embroidered cutwork trim. The bodice is of a green, twill-woven fabric that may have originally been lightly napped. It is possibly a green denim. It is constructed with a double-breasted front closure, five pearl (probably stamped shell) buttons, 3/4 inch in diameter, with corresponding hand-stitched buttonholes on the proper right. The neck closes with a hook and eye. The collar is reminiscent of a sailor's collar, creating a flap in the back. It is decorated with cutwork and red fabric and lined with red fabric. A bow, matching that at the back (but not as wide) is stitched to the neck. The lower part of the front bodice is attached with a seam as a continuation of the lower back. False pocket flaps are sewn into this seam, decorated with a button at each upper corner. A decorative trim consisting of a 2 3/4-inch-wide, machine-embroidered cutwork is sewn beneath each flap as an outline. This trim is further emphasized with a strip of red fabric sewn beneath the holes of the cutwork.

The back is fitted with a center back seam and two side seams on each side: there are no underarm side seams. The center back seam ends in a split seam four inches long. Each side seam ends in an inverted pleat of similar length. There is a large silk bow of red satin stitched to the back at the base of the spine.

The coat sleeves are constructed from two pieces: top and bottom. Each two-inch-wide cuff echoes the trim of the false pockets, with the wide cutwork trim, red fabric beneath, and a button stitched to each cuff.

The skirt, a plain-woven fabric, is attached to the bodice. It separates in the front, with the three-button closure being covered by placket and pleat. These are small, grey pearlized buttons with an additional hook at the top. The skirt is made of an unbalanced red and green plaid with accents of white. The pleats are evenly spaced and folded to the left. A wide red fabric is used to line the hem of the skirt.

All of the major seams have been finished with an overcast stitch.
