DescriptionLong, high-waisted prom dress made from a turquoise crepe fabric. The dress is sleeveless, with a scoop neckline. The high waistline is decorted with small leaves and flowers made from off-white and light turquoise fabrics and faux velvet glued together. Small faux crystals and flower stamens create a sparkle for the trim. The dress is fitted with a single dart on each side front. Two pleats are folded into the skirt at the waistline seam, below each bust dart. The closure is a metal zipper at the center back, 16 1/2 inches long, with one metal hook. The skirt has only one seam, at the center back, with an eleven-inch opening at the hem for movement. The dress is lined with a matching faille fabric. Turquoise hem tape is also used. Bias tape straps for hanging the dress are stitched at each shoulder. A snap with thread braid is stitched to each shoulder, to attach the dress to a bra and/or slip strap.
NotesHistorical Note: According to the donor, she wore this dress to her Weaver High School senior prom on 21 June 1966. The prom was held in the Emanuel Synagogue Auditorium on Mohegan Drive in West Hartford, Connecticut.
