DescriptionOval earthenware teapot with silver luster decoration, a type of ceramic known as lusterware. The teapot (.a) sits on an oval foot and has swelled, ribbed sides that narrow before swelling again, then narrowing again to form a vertical rim with horizontal raised bands. The bottom band is twisted, imitating the appearance of a rope. The exterior of the teapot is completely covered with silver luster, while the inside is covered with a dark brown glaze. The teapot has a molded and applied handle and spout, each applied over mold lines found on opposite sides of the teapot. The teapot has an oval, nearly flat, tin lid (.b) with a seam crossing the center. A circular tin finial is located in the center of the lid; the edge of the finial has rope-like decoration as well. The bottom of the tip of the spout has broken off.
