DescriptionWide-mouthed, lidded stoneware jar or crock with a brown slip glaze, or Albany-type glaze, on the interior and exterior. The jar/crock (.a) has a flat bottom and cylindrical sides that rise to a slightly rolled rim. Just over an inch below the rim, an incised line circles the jar/crock. Two small lug handles are attached to the jar/crock on opposite sides. On one side, between the handles but above the incised line, is an impressed mark of "M. C. WEBSTER&SO/ HARTFORD". There are several imperfections in the glaze or surface of the stoneware, including below the mark and to the lower right of the mark. There is one chip in the rim, on the side opposite the mark. The remnants of a small green leaf are adhered to the glaze on the same side, near the rim. There are many light scratches to the glaze on the outside of the jar/crock.

The lid (.b) has a slight dome on top and a disc-shaped finial in the center. Beneath the horizontally oriented rim, a vertical rim fits inside the jar/crock. There are two chips in this portion of the lid.
