DescriptionOvoid, grey, stoneware jug with a pulled strap handle connecting the rim and the shoulder of the jug. The jug is minimally decorated with two incised lines at the foot, one at the shoulder, and two just below the rim. Opposite the handle is an impressed maker's mark that reads, "ARMSTRONG,/ &/ WENTWORTH/ NORWICH." The mark, as well as both ends of the handle, have been decorated with cobalt blue. A short cork seals the rim of the jug. There is some discoloration and pitting to the lower left of the handle. The glaze is marred slightly at the shoulder to the right of the handle.
There are three sticky labels on the outside of the jar. One is a small, white, cloth label with no writing that is beneath and to the left of the handle. The second label is a white, oval, paper label adhered to the jar to the right of the mark. This label has the numbers "1233" hand-written in pencil. The third label is also located to the right of the mark, and consists of a printed rectangular label. Inside a scrolled border, the label reads, "George S. McKearin/ Collection/ of/ American Pottery/ No." Then the number "1234" is hand-written in pencil.
