DescriptionOvoid, grey stoneware jug with a salt glaze on the exterior and a brown slip glaze, or Albany-type slip glaze, on the interior. The jug has a flat bottom and sides that swell then narrow at the shoulder to form a narrow, reeded neck. Nine raised lines circle the neck where the neck and shoulder meet. A pulled strap handle connects the neck and shoulder of the jug. Opposite the handle, below the raised lines, is an impressed mark, "D. GOODALE./ HARTFORD". The mark is hand-painted with a small amount of cobalt blue, as are both ends of the handle. A line of cobalt blue drips down below the handle. There are several imperfections in the glaze, due to bumps or indentations in the surface of the stoneware. Some thicker spots of the glaze are a brown or light brown color, most noticeably to the right of the handle. There is light crazing over all the salt glazed surfaces of the jug.
