DescriptionCylindrical, buff-colored stoneware jug with a salt glaze and cobalt blue decoration. The salt glaze is applied to the exterior of the jug, and a brown slip glaze, or Albany-type glaze, is on the interior. The jug has a round base and cylindrical sides that gently taper at the shoulder and form a wide band, or collar, at the rim. The jug has a pulled, strap handle that connects the neck and shoulder of the jug. Opposite the handle, an impressed mark reads, "M.C.WEBSTER&SON/HARTFO[RD]" over the large impressed number "2". Hand-painted cobalt blue decoration has been applied on the mark and at both ends of the handle. The glazed exterior surface of the jug is not an even color. There is a chip in the stoneware to the left of the mark, and another chip below the mark.
