DescriptionOvoid, stoneware jug with a salt glaze on the exterior and a brown slip glaze, or Albany-type slip glaze, on the interior. The jug has a flat bottom and gently swelling sides that narrow gradually at the shoulder to form a narrow, wide band, or collar, rim. A pulled strap handle connects the neck and shoulder of the jug, and an incised line circles the bottom of the neck. Opposite the handle is an impressed mark, "GOODWIN/ WEBSTER". Cobalt blue has been hand-painted over the mark and at both ends of the handle. There are many imperfections in the glaze, and an overall accumulation of dirt. Hairline cracks are visible on the side of the jug to the lower right of the mark, beneath the handle, and to the lower right of the handle. A hairline crack is also visible on the top section of the handle itself.
