DescriptionLarge, cylindrical, small-mouthed redware preserve jar (.a) with a flat bottom, cylindrical body, and a narrow neck that flares to support a fitted lid (.b). Two incised lines circle the shoulder of the jar. The interior of the jar is coated with a clear lead glaze. Much of the exterior is coated as well, with the exception of the bottom and the lower inch of the sides of the jar, which are unglazed. Several irregular patches of manganese black have been applied to the exterior of the jar. The same glaze and manganese black decoration have been applied to the exterior of the lid as well. The domed lid has a circular disk-shaped finial in the center, to act as a handle or a foot ring when inverted. The underside of the lid is not glazed.

There is crazing over all the glazed surfaces of the lid and jar; some of the crazing on the exterior of the jar has resulted in chipping. There are also light scratches on the exterior of the jar. Many small chips in the glaze have rubbed or chipped off the top surface of the rim of the jar.
