DescriptionRound teacup made of buff-colored earthenware with a blue-tinted glaze, a type of ceramic known as pearlware. The teacup is decorated with a transfer-printed underglaze cobalt blue pattern and border. The pattern, printed twice on the outside of the teacup, shows a tower and low wall in a state of ruin to the left. The tower has grass growing from the top, and there are trees behind the wall. To the right of the tower, two figures are fishing along a stream or river that winds through the scene. To the right, two tall trees sit on land that sticks out into the river. A wall, village, and low hills are visible in the distance. A small molded handle has been applied on one side between the two patterns. The handle is decorated with small white flowers on a blue field. A border, printed on the inside edge of the rim, consists of various types of white flowers and dark blue leaves on a medium blue background, edged with a line of small white shapes on a dark blue field. Finally, part of the pattern, just the ruined tower and wall, is printed on the inside bottom of the teacup. There is crazing on all the surfaces of the teacup, as well as an overall light brown discoloration.
