DescriptionRound, ironstone plate with an undulating edge and several underglaze cobalt blue transfer-printed scenes, titled, "VIEWS OF HARTFORD, CONN." One circular scene is printed in the center of the plate, with four smaller, oval scenes printed around the rim. The scene in the center of the plate shows a large Gothic-style building with an irregular roofline and a circular, domed cupola. Below this is the title, "THE STATE CAPITOL." The smaller scenes printed at the rim begin at the top with another Gothic-style building titled, "COLT MEMORIAL". To the right is a scene showing two circular towers supporting an arch over a road, which is titled, "SOLDIERS & SAILORS/ MEMORIAL ARCH". A scene showing a large oak tree is printed at the bottom of the plate, titled, "CHARTER OAK". Finally, the fourth scene shows an elaborate fountain, and is titled, "CORNING FOUNTAIN". The four scenes at the rim are separated by clusters of fruit, and a final border at the outer edge of the rim consists of a row of white trefoils on a dark blue field. There is crazing over all the surfaces of the plate, and a short crack in the rim at the scene of the Colt Memorial.
