DescriptionA young man sits backwards on a chair, with his left arm resting on the chair back. He wears breeches with buttons and garters, a shirt, a vest, and a fur-lined cap with a plume. With his right, hand he strokes the cheek of a young woman who sits on a bench at the left. She wears a skirt, an apron, and a bodice over a blouse. The sleeves of her blouse are rolled up. A fringed shawl is fastened with a brooch. A lace cap with a ribbon in it is on her head. She is knitting. Bunches of grapes hang from a grape vine growing on the wall at the right. The wall of the building appears to be of brick covered with stucco. A window at the upper left has leaded glass panes in its right side; a wooden shutter is open.
