DescriptionA young woman in a white dress is seated in a wooden chair in front of a fireplace. She has a bracelet on her right wrist and holds an open book in her right hand. Her foot rests on the fender. A second woman stands behind her with her left elbow resting on the mantle. She wears a similarly styled dark dress and a veil. A fire burns in the fireplace, and smoke is going up the chimney. A large framed picture, or more probably a mirror, hangs over the mantle.
