DescriptionRound, earthenware plate or tray with printed, underglaze green decoration commemorating the state of Connecticut. The central design on the plate is an image titled, "STATE CAPITOL HARTFORD", which shows a multi-story building with an irregular roof line and a central round tower. The center of the plate bears the title, "CONNECTICUT" above and, "THE NUTMEG STATE" below. Surrounding this are five oval borders, each containing a separate design and title. The first shows a four-lane highway and is titled, "CONNECTICUT TURNPIKE". The second design shows a Gothic-style tower, and is titled, "HARKNESS TOWER". The third design shows a ship or submarine in the water, titled, "NEW LONDON". The fourth design shows a bridge crossing a river, titled, "CHARTER OAK BRIDGE". The final design shows a ship with three-masts titled, "OLD WHALING SHIP". Between each design is a small flower and leaves, probably the mountain laurel. There is a scalloped line at the outer edge of the rim.
