DescriptionRound, ironstone plate with a transfer-printed underglaze border and hand-painted overglaze enamel pattern. The pattern, located in the center of the plate, is titled, "THE MERIDEN CENTENNIAL 1906" above and below, "MERRY DEN TAVERN/ ERECTED 1752. BY THEOPHILUS HALL/ COPYRIGHTED". The image shows a rambling structure with a dutch roof, one-story porch, multi-paned windows, and wood construction. A sign in the front of the building reads, "CENTRAL/ HOTEL". A stagecoach with a team of four horses is on the street in front of the building. The scene is painted in dark brown and green enamels. This is surrounded by an area of white, than an elaborate, transfer-printed border at the rim. The border consists of groups of various flowers and a field of geometric shapes at the rim. There is a band of dark teal with white circles at the outer edge of the rim. All of the surfaces of the plate show signs of crazing, and there are light scratches in the enamel.
