DescriptionWhite, porcelain mug in the shape of a man's head. The man has curly hair, bushy eyebrows, a moustache, and underglaze blue eyes. He is wearing a cap, the sides of which form the rim of the mug. The handle is located in the back of the man's head. Raised lettering on the bottom of the mug reads, "GIFFEN TRUE PORCELAIN/ MARK TWAIN/ DINE-DANCE/ HARTFORD/ F. SOLDATE-PRES". There are two blue dots on the cap and one small air bubble in the man's chin. Small air bubbles are located wherever the glaze is thickest. These were formed at the time of manufacture.
NotesSubject Note: The mug is in the shape of the head of author Samuel L. Clemens (1835-1910), better known as Mark Twain. (Hunt 11/23/2004)
