DescriptionRound, cream-colored ironstone plate with printed underglaze red designs. The designs are bisected by a round tube that begins at the upper left and expands in width down to the lower right. The word "CONNECTICUT" is written in block letters on this tube. The end of the tube in the upper left corner is being fed into a metalworking lathe operated by an older man in glasses and a white coat. The rest of the plate is decorated with small, labeled vignettes. To the upper right of the tube is an airplane over the words, "AVIATION INDUSTRY" and a bridge over a two-lane road titled, "MERRITT PARKWAY. There is a pair of horses pulling agricultural machinery in a field titled "AGRICULTURE" and a Gothic-style tower titled "HARKNESS/ TOWER/ YALE UNIVERSITY". The decoration continues with a small building titled the, "NATHAN HALE/ SCHOOL HOUSE", an elaborate domed buidling titled, "STATE CAPITOL" and the base of a large tree titled, "THE GREAT ELM/ 200 YEARS OLD". To the lower left of the central tube are further decorations. They consist of a woman standing before a mechanized loom beneath the title "TEXTILES" and a submarine in water below the title, "SUBMARINES". Four cadets in military uniforms march with a flag beneath the title, "U. S. COAST GUARD/ ACADEMY". A two-story building with a raised, projecting portico and a tower with a dome is titled, "OLD/ STATE HOUSE", and a sailing vessel with three masts is above the title, "MARINE HISTORICAL MUSEUM". Finally, a man sits and works on a net below the title, "FISHING". A narrow border at the rim of the plate consists of leaves and small flowers. There are two small spots of light blue paint on the surface of the plate.

An extensive mark on the back of the plate explains some of Connecticut's achievements: "CONNECTICUT/ Capital - Hartford/ Constitution State, Land of Steady Habits, Also/ Nutmeg State. State flower, Mountain Laurel./ Is one of the 13 original states of the Union. It is/ primarily industrial, and stands near the top in/ silverware, fabrics, machine guns, cutlery, rubber/ footwear, women's garments, builders hardware,/ clocks, sewing machines, typewriters, electrical/ appliances, pay telephones and airplane motors./ It has 25 instituions of higher learning.
