DescriptionRound plate of buff-colored earthenware with a light blue-tinted glaze, a type of ceramic known as pearlware. The plate has a lightly scalloped rim and is decorated with an overglaze transfer-printed, red enamel pattern. The pattern, titled, "Canova", shows a red urn sitting on a low, square pedestal, slightly to the left of center. On the right is a body of water, with a boat floating in it, and several buildings on the shore in the middle distance. Trees, ferns, and foliage decorate the landscape between the buidings, water, and urn. The pattern is surrounded by a brief area of white, then a border of pointed arches and geometric floral embellishments. The border on the rim of the plate consists of eight panels of two different alternating designs. One design has a red background with a line of flowers, and the other design shows an urn on a pedestal with a boat floating in water to the right.
The entire plate has crazing and considerable but uneven yellow discoloration.
