DescriptionLarge, round, whiteware plate with printed, underglaze, blue-green decoration commemorating the tercentenary of Clinton, Connecticut. A small sailing boat is printed in the center of the plate, with the title, "HOMENOSCITT/ PLANTATION" printed below. Above and below this design are two banners that contain writing; "TERCENTENARY" is above and "1663 Clinton, CONN. 1963" is below. This is surrounded by an area of white, then there are seven small designs and titles printed on the rim. The design at the top shows a row of three buildings, with a church in the center, titled, "WILLIAM STANTON ANDREWS MEMORIAL 1938". To the right is a design showing a train crossing a stone bridge with the title, "INDIAN RIVER BRIDGE - 1890". Next is a statue of a man in robes, titled, "IN HONOR OF/ THIS GOOD AND LEARNED/ ABRAHAM PIERSON/ FIRST PRESIDENT/ YALE COLLEGE/ 1701-1707/ ABRAHAM PIERSON MONUMENT". Next is a small wood building with a chimney at one end, titled, "COW HILL RED SCHOOLHOUSE - 1800". Then is a three-story building with a central tower and mansard roof, titled, "OLD MORGAN SCHOOL - 1871". Next is a stone marker with the number "25" and the letters "NH" carved in the stone. Below is the title, "MILESTONE - 1755". The last design shows a wooden structure with two chimneys and a smaller attached structure, titled, "ADAM STANTON HOUSE - 1789". Each of the designs is separated by a shell, perhaps a clam or muscle shell. The only exception to this are the bottom two designs, which are separated by a group of flowers. An inscription on the back of the plate explains the significance of each design.
