DescriptionSmall, round, earthenware plate with a brown transfer-printed pattern in the center and a raised border around the rim. The pattern shows fifteen soldiers or cadets marching in a field toward the left, with the title, "THE MARCH", below. Six of the soldiers, marching in two rows at the extreme left, are carrying musical instruments, including a fife and drums. They are followed by a single soldier, then eight soldiers in two rows carrying bayonets to the extreme right. Most of the soldiers are carrying or wearing bayonets, hats, backpacks, formal uniforms with epaulets, and white pants with a stripe down the side. The spire of a tall building and rows of bushes decorate the background of the scene. The rim of the plate is not decorated with any transfer-printed designs; instead, it is ornamented with relief decoration. All twenty-six letters of the alphabet circle the rim surrounded by a small raised fleur-de-lis pattern. There is crazing over all the surfaces of the plate.
