DescriptionRound tea bowl and saucer of buff-colored earthenware with a blue-tinted glaze, a type of ceramic known as pearlware. The tea bowl and saucer are decorated with a transfer-printed underglaze cobalt blue pattern and border. The pattern shows a tower and low wall in a state of ruin, to the left. The tower has grass growing from the top, and there are trees behind the wall. To the right of the tower, two figures are fishing along a stream or river that winds through the scene. To the right, two tall trees sit on land that sticks out into the river. A wall, village, and low hills are visible in the distance. The border consists of various types of white flowers and dark blue leaves on a medium blue background, edged with a line of small white shapes on a dark blue field.

Tea Bowl (.23a): The pattern is printed twice on the outside of the tea bowl, and the border is printed on the inside of the rim. The scene of just the ruined tower and wall is printed on the inside bottom of the tea bowl. There is crazing on all the surfaces of the tea bowl, and yellowing on the inside. There is a chip along the inside edge of the rim, revealing darkened earthenware below. Additionally, there is a crack in the rim, that extends down the side of the tea bowl.

Saucer (.23b): The pattern is printed once in a circle on the center of the saucer and is surrounded by the border printed on the rim.
