DescriptionRound, plain white, hard paste porcelain fruit baskets with an open work design. The baskets are formed of two pieces, a basket and a stand, that are held together with an iron screw that runs from the bottom of the basket to the base of the stand.
Fruit basket 1935.2.28 consists of a circular basket with a flat base and flared sides and a rim. The sides of the basket have an open work pattern of arched and inter-locking bands of porcelain. The stand that supports the basket has a wide, circular foot that narrows before swelling again at a flattened circular turning. The stand flares again at the top to form the circular support for the basket.
The second fruit basket, 1935.2.29, was originally identical to fruit basket 1935.2.28. However, at some point in the past, the basket and stand were disassembled. When the two parts were reassembled, the base was inverted before being screwed back together. As a result, the basket appears to be of the wrong size for the stand.
Fruit basket 1935.2.28 is in good condition. Outside of the inverted stand, the second fruit basket, 1935.2.29, is in good condition as well.
