DescriptionRound, Chinese export porcelain sugar bowl with hand-painted overglaze enamels in orange, purple, and green. The sugar bowl has two handles, each made of two intertwined straps of porcelain. An abstract floral arrangement covers the joint where each strap meets the body of the sugar bowl. These decorations, and the handle, have been hand-painted with orange enamel in an abstract floral motif. Between each handle, a grouping of one purple flower, two orange flowers, and several leaves decorates the sides of the sugar bowl. Finally, a border at the rim consists of a line of orange enamel with short, curved lines emerging from beneath the line at regular intervals. The ends of these short lines are decorated with a purple enamel dot.
There is a chip in the rim above one handle, and a dark crack nearly the full height of the sugar bowl to the right of this same handle.
