DescriptionEnglish buff-colored earthenware figurine with a blue-tinted glaze, hand-painted polychrome overglaze enamels, and silver luster decoration. The figurine consists of a woman seated on a green support, probably a moss-covered rock, with a few small flowers and green foliage at her feet. She is wearing a Grecian-style yellow, red, and blue dress, with a purple and blue cape. She is seated next to a dark yellow lion, and she holds a silver luster shield in her left hand. Her right arm is raised above her head, and grasps an item which is now missing. Her chest is covered with silver luster chain mail, and she wears a silver luster helmet with a red plume on top. Her skin is painted with pale peach enamel, with darker pink cheeks and brown eyes and hair.

The figurine is in good condition, although her right forearm was detached, then was reattached using now yellowed tape. Some of the glaze and enamel has rubbed off of projecting parts of the woman's hand, lower parts of her dress, her shield, and the lion's paws. The flowers and greenery at her feet have sustained minor damage.
NotesSubject Note: Britannia is the personification of Britain, shown as a woman with a shield, helmet, and trident, accompanied by a lion.
