DescriptionSmall, rectangular tray of buff-colored earthenware with a blue-tinted glaze, a type of ceramic known as pearlware. The tray is decorated with a transfer-printed pattern in the center, surrounded by a border at the wide rim. The pattern shows an idealized Italian-influenced landscape with statues in a fountain in front of a tree to the right. Two men and a woman wearing nineteenth-century costume are standing to the left of this fountain. There is a large building on a hill to the left, and mountains in the background. Another couple are walking near a fountain in the left middle distance. The border divides the rim into eight panels, each with a blue background. The panels alternate between light and dark flowers inside a small border of scrolls. Finally, the tray has molded imitation handles that have been hand-painted with underglaze cobalt blue. The tray has crazing overall, and the glaze has yellowed with time. There are two large chips on the bottom of the rim.
