DescriptionThree-quarter-length studio portrait of a young man holding a violin and bow. He wears a dark suit, a shirt with a celluloid collar, and a necktie. He appears to wear a ring on his right hand.
NotesArtist Note: The initials "HR" and the signature "Randall" suggest that the photographer is Herbert Randall, who was active in Hartford, beginning in 1900. However, it is not clear that Herman Zahnleiter was in Connecticut at this time. (Finlay 7/21/2004)

Title Note: The dealer who sold this photograph identified the subject as Herman J. Zahnleiter, later the conductor of the New Britain Symphony Orchestra. (Finlay 7/21/2004)
