DescriptionRound, Chinese export porcelain teapot with hand-painted overglaze black enamel and gilding, a technique known as grisaille. The small hand-painted landscape, found on both sides of the teapot, shows two threes and a Chinese structure on a hill. A border, at the foot of the teapot, consists of a wavy line with black dots where the line dips down. A second border, at the rim of the teapot, consists of a scalloped line with a cluster of three black enamel dots and one gilded dot where the line peaks. The teapot has a molded and applied handle of two pieces of porcelain that have been twisted together. A cluster of leaves has been molded, then applied and decorated with black enamel at each place where the handle meets the body of the teapot. A straight spout has been applied opposite the handle. The teapot is missing its lid.
