Cartes-de-viste of the same photograph, 1965.25.1 and 1964.73.17, bear the imprint of Kellogg Brothers on their versos. "Photographs in oil," photographs hand-colored with oil paint, were popular in the early 1860s and were produced for sale by many photographers.
