DescriptionCylindrical, Chinese export porcelain teapot, part of a teaset consisting of a teapot, cream ewer, sugar bowl, six tea bowls, and six saucers. The set is decorated with overglaze enamels in brown, green, pink and purple, with a small flower-filled basket and small clusters of flowers. The entire set, with the straight-sided teapot and undecorated white porcelain surfaces, reflects the neoclassical style popular in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

The straight-sided, round teapot (.a) with curved spout has an enameled basket on either side with four small flowers. There is a border at the rim of the teapot consisting of two parallel brown lines with evenly spaced purple dots filling the space between. At the base of the teapot, a wavy brown line outlined in brown dots decorates the surface. The handle, consisting of two pieces of extruded porcelain twisted together and applied to the body of the teapot, is broken into three pieces. Four molded and applied clusters of decoration, painted in brown enamel, are found where the handle once joined the body of the teapot. The enameling on the teapot shows signs of wear, especially on the baskets and flowers. Additionally, several hairline cracks run up the sides of the teapot, with one especially large crack near the base of the handle.

The round lid (.b), with molded applied handle, is broken into seven pieces.
