DescriptionWheel-thrown Chinese export porcelain custard cup with hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration showing a Chinese landscape; the custard cup is a type of Chinese export porcelain known as Cantonware. The Chinese landscape consists of a willow tree with a Chinese structure to the right. A river with a Chinese boat runs through the landscape, and there are mountains in the distance. The landscape runs around all sides of the outside of the custard cup. The custard cup (.a) has a handle made up of two pieces of pulled porcelain that have been twisted and applied to the body. A cluster of flowers with cobalt blue underglaze decoration has been applied where the handle and the body of the cup meet.

The lid (.b) is decorated with a landscape with mountains, a river, and boats. This scene is surrounded by concentric rings of borders. The first is a "Canton" border consisting of a scalloped line with parallel lines of hatching running inside. The following two are blue borders with darker lines painted inside to create a geometric pattern. The top of the lid has a small molded and applied finial in the shape of a berry and leaves.
