DescriptionRectangular, earthenware teapot (.a) and lid (.b) with a black transfer-printed pattern and pink luster embellishments at the rims and handle; the teapot is a type of ceramic known as pink lusterware. Two different printed patterns are found on each of the swelled sides of the teapot. The pattern to the left of the handle shows a large three-story home and outbuildings on a lawn with trees to the left and right. A man and a woman stand in the foreground, gazing at the house and three sheep on the lawn. The pattern to the right of the handle shows an arched bridge connecting a tree-covered river bank to the right with industrial and agricultural buildings on the bank to the left. Clouds fill the sky above the bridge and buildings. The teapot has a molded and applied spout opposite a molded and applied handle. The spout and handle line up with mold lines that appear on the body of the teapot. Two additional, different, transfer-printed patterns are found on each side of the lid as well. One shows a two-story structure on a hill with a figure fishing in the river or pond in the foreground. The other pattern shows a two-story building with two sheep in the foreground. The lid of the teapot has a small molded and applied finial and a small hole to allow steam to escape the teapot. Finally, the teapot has lines of pink luster applied on the handles, spout, rim, and foot, and the lid has it applied on the rim. Much of this was probably applied by hand, with the exception of a floral luster pattern printed on the spout.
The lid of the teapot has a hairline crack running from the finial to the rim. Additionally, a chip of glaze is missing from the inside of the lid.
