DescriptionThree round, Chinese, hard paste porcelain plates with hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration. The central decoration on the plates shows a two-story Chinese structure with a tree in front and another in the background. Four individuals stand out in front, and a fifth is visible through a second story window. Of the four figures in front, one shorter person stands at the door and points, or gives directions, to the other three individuals. The three are dressed in robes, and one gestures widely. This scene is surrounded at the rim of the plate by a border, consisting of floral motifs with scrolls of thick and thin blue lines between. All of the plates vary slightly, although each shows the same general scene described above.

Plate (.1) has the beginnings of several long hairline cracks on the bottom, and there is a chip on the rim. Plate (.2) had five small chips on the rim. Plate (.3) has one small chip on the rim and the beginnings of a few hairline cracks on the bottom.
